Meditation helps to create a balance within ourselves. Through meditation we can decrease reactivity to our internal and external environment. We have the ability to reduce heightened emotions, negative physical sensations and racing thoughts that occur by just observing our own internal body sensations or our breath or a combination of the two. Meditations can be used on a regular basis to reduce critical or judgmental mindsets about ourselves, other people, life situations and events that happen around us.
One main aim of meditation is to realise that everything within our inner and outer environment is impermanent and to accept what is right now in a neutral manner. When we realise the impermanency of our emotions, thoughts, physical sensations, events, situation, and others around us we begin to realise the things within our inner and outer environment come and go but never stay as they are. By focusing on what is happening in the here and now we are not focused on negative situations that occur within our life. We are able to view our world in a more balanced manner, we react less to our environment, and are more able to react in a balanced mindset. In this way, our level of happiness, inner balance, peace and tranquility increase. We effectively have the ability to reduce reactivity to our environment and live in a harmonious manner.
It is up to us to choose how we would like to live our lives. We have the choice to create an inner calm or to remain reactive to our inner and outer environment.
